Introducing Maggie May, Newstead’s latest addition with a distinctly 70s vibe and a sophisticated palette that is warm and inviting.

The colours used and palette of finishes are the evocative feature of this venue, exuding 70’s energy with a mix of mustard vinyl, orange, blush and cream carpet, olive velvet curtains and dark wood panelling.

Maggie May is a small venue that is mainly occupied by the bar and dining seating that is a mix of booth seating and open plan. There is a private dining zone down one end, which has a softer feel with heavy velvet curtains.

Maggie May’s venue lighting is all new and plays a large role in the success of the space, adding mood and atmosphere. We selected several traditional 70’s pendant ‘flowerpot’ lights to highlight the bar and private dining areas.

The bar front is also uniquely 70s with its deep upholstered mustard vinyl profile, and the shag-pile-inspired artwork throughout the venue adds softness and yet another era reference.

SHORT FORM TEXT

This project involved the refurbishment of an existing bar and dining space which had a rigid, industrial feel. We worked with the existing layout, transforming it into a space that has real personality and energy. Maggie was the muse, and she is straight out of the 70s with a sophistication that is appreciated by the target market.

The project brief was to create something memorable with a distinct style that sits apart from the run-of-the-mill bars that are more prevalent in town. It needed to cater for the young professional Newstead crowd that easily transitioned from lunch through to nights. Our team researched what was lacking in the area and created a concept we believed would be well-received by the target market.
