Lord Stanley Hotel

Heritage transformation for Brisbane landmark hotel.

A landmark of Brisbane since the late 19th century, this heritage-listed venue has undergone a thoughtful transformation, balancing the rich character of the original building with a vibrant, contemporary hospitality offering.

Sitting proudly near the Gabba, the venue now boasts a wide array of new spaces including a gaming room, sports bar, beer garden, restaurant, kids playground, function room, and a new rooftop deck.

The design approach centred on honouring the building’s heritage while revitalising it for modern use. Internally, the design is moody and tactile, enhancing the existing heritage fabric through careful exposure of original brick walls, restored timber elements, and rich textures. Timber was used extensively across joinery, bracing, and decorative detailing, bringing cohesion and warmth throughout the space. The beer garden was envisioned as an outdoor sub-tropical retreat, rich in planting and defined by natural materials - timber, brick, stone, and textured paving. In the centre of the beer garden sits a striking pandanus tree surrounded by layers of lush greenery.
